The film tells the story of a group of sexually deprived teenagers, who are navigating their way to their highly anticipated rite of adulthood – losing their virginity.
In her role as the seductive Jeanine Stifler – mom to 18-year-old Steve – she steps in to help out one of the boys, who for three films is obsessed with the wild woman.
The term MILF, meaning mothers I’d like to f***, was popularized after it was used in the film.
After achieving stardom as the mother of all MILFs, Coolidge reprised the role for three more films in the American Pie franchise.
After American Pie, Coolidge became a mainstream sex symbol who was worshipped by men everywhere.
“People that I could never get in the door,” she told Variety, “all of a sudden they’re asking me to be part of their things.”
Award-winning role
After years of playing ditzy blondes, the comedian was then given the opportunity to take her career to the next level, in the HBO hit series White Lotus.
And she won several awards, including her first Golden Globe, for her performance as the self-absorbed Tanya McQuoid, one of the few characters to appear in both seasons, 2021 and 2022.
Unfortunately, her character, a fan favorite, was killed off at the end of the last season.
“I’m jealous of everyone that’s going. I just want to stress I’m not a good sport about it, but there’s nothing I can do,” she told Today.
“When they kill you, you have to accept it,” she continued. “Because it means they’re not calling for your costume sizes or anything. It’s over! I have to get another thing. I have to make another thing happen, I guess.”
MILF action
Meanwhile, speaking with Variety in 2022, the star who was a series regular in the TV series 2 Broke Girls, made a shocking admission, which became media fodder across the world.
“I got a lot of play at being a MILF, and I got a lot of sexual action from American Pie,” Coolidge shared. “There were so many benefits to doing that movie. I mean, there would be like 200 people that I would’ve never have slept with.”
She adds, “Maybe I got this special attention because people saw me as Stifler’s mom or the Legally Blonde woman.”
Shortly after, the actor made another confession.
“I did say that jokingly,” Coolidge said in a conversation with Entertainment Weekly. “And, God, you really can’t make jokes in our town, because I did make the terrible mistake of saying, ‘Thank God for that movie, I got to sleep with 200 men,’ or whatever. And look, I would love to say that was true, but I mean, that was sort of an exaggeration.”
Only “sort of an exaggeration.”
The Best in Show star adds that American Pie “helped my dating life in a way that I can’t ever explain. If I hadn’t had that movie, I don’t think… Well, let’s just say it would’ve been a very dull decade.”
