Beckinsale returned to the Cannes Film Festival this year as she was in attendance at the amfAR charity gala, among other events. Her presence at one of the biggest red carpet events in the world must have reminded her of her very first time walking the very same carpet.
Her first time in Cannes was in 1993. She was attending the premiere for Kenneth Branagh’s Shakespeare adaptation “Much Ado About Nothing.” Following this year’s events, Beckinsale found a picture of herself from her very first Cannes appearance and shared a story not many people know.
On the 1993 Cannes red carpet, her co-star Keanu Reeves saved her from some major embarrassment. The actress shared the entire story on Instagram. She wrote, “I had bought the bodysuit in the Sock Shop at the airport and when I got in the car to drive to the premiere with Denzel and Pauletta Washington, all the poppers in the crotch popped themselves open and it flipped up like a roller blind. I didn’t feel it was appropriate to go delving around in my undercarriage with all of us in the back of the car so I just quietly panicked.”
“I walked out onto the biggest red carpet of my life and whispered to Keanu and Robert Sean Leonard what had happened. In this picture I am holding the front gusset down and the two of them are holding the back gusset. Absolute legends who may not even have fully understood the physics of what was happening or even heard the word ‘gusset’ before but both jumped in to save me no questions asked,” she added about the heroic act.
Showing what a gentleman Reeves has always been. In the picture, Reeves is smiling his signature boyish grin as he silently helps his co-star avoid embarrassment.
The actor is immensely successful in his professional life. His latest installment for his John Wick franchise, “John Wick: Chapter 4,” has earned nearly $430 million worldwide, making it the franchise’s highest-grossing film to date. The John Wick franchise has officially crossed the billion-dollar mark in box office earnings!
And as always, Reeves makes sure the cast and crew of his movies are always thanked for their work. He thanked the four-man stunt team who worked with him on the film by getting them each a personalized Rolex Submariner watch. He also made all of them personalized shirts which showed the number of times each man was killed by his character in the film.
In his personal life, the actor is in a loving relationship with his girlfriend Alexandra Grant.
The couple is perhaps most known for how private they keep the details of their lives and relationship. However, Reeves recently sat down for an interview with PEOPLE and spoke about the happiness he feels with his artist partner.
