She declined to name the person who commented, adding, “I think that would be very damaging to them.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle later released a Netflix series, which, although it had some minor nods to royal life — such as when they left, announcing their flight as the “freedom flight” — it was Harry’s book, Spare, which would become the main attraction.
Prince Harry decided to reveal several details about how Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle didn’t get along at all. Well, that might be an understatement, as the two seem to never have become friends.
Meghan Markle recalled first ‘awkward’ meeting with Kate Middleton
She continued, “I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside. There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go ‘You can relax now’, but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”
Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claim in their book Finding Freedom that the two women weren’t precisely feuding from the start; rather, the two royals didn’t know each other well enough. Scobie has been known to have close ties to Harry and Meghan, considering himself somewhat of their friend.
“Meghan would agree with the assessment that the duchesses were not the best of friends,” they wrote. “Their relationship hadn’t progressed much since [Markle] was Harry’s girlfriend.”
Harry and Meghan left the royal family about four years ago. At the time, many probably thought they would slowly disappear from the newspaper’s front pages and that it was precisely what they wanted. However, it ended up completely the opposite — and several royal family members, including Kate Middleton, have remained under constant scrutiny.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle began their US adventure by doing their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, accusing the royal family of racism and turning a blind eye to Meghan’s mental health. The bashing continued through other interviews, a Netflix series, and later, Harry’s book, which was the final straw for many of the Firm’s members.
Prince William, Kate Middleton, King Charles, and Queen Camilla’s relationship with the Sussexes has long been down the drain, and in many cases, making amends seems impossible. But even though this might have had a very negative impact on their relation with Harry and Meghan, a royal expert claims it could have had a very positive effect on the family members who remained on duty.
In February 2021, Harry and Meghan sat down with TV host Oprah in the garden of her home in Montecito, California. There, they spilled what they felt was the truth about their experiences within the Royal Family. The statements they made changed things forever.
Harry & Meghan – attacks on royal family
After that, Harry and Meghan were practically excluded from the Royal Family, and none of the royals wanted anything to do with them.
Meghan didn’t hold back in the interview, revealing that then-Prince Charles had refused to take Harry’s phone calls.
However, the most shocking part occurred when Meghan claimed conversations had happened within the palace concerning how dark Archie’s skin would be.
“They were concerned that if he were too brown, that that would be a problem?” Oprah asked Meghan.
“I wasn’t able to follow up with why,” Meghan replied. “But that — if that’s the assumption you’re making, I think that feels like a pretty safe one.”
She declined to name the person who commented, adding, “I think that would be very damaging to them.”

Meghan Markle recalled first ‘awkward’ meeting with Kate Middleton
In their Netflix show, Meghan Markle recalled her first meeting with Kate Middleton — and it wasn’t the most successful.
“When Will and Kate came over, and I met her for the first time, they came over for dinner, I remember I was in ripped jeans, and I was barefoot,” Meghan recalled.
“I was a hugger. I’ve always been a hugger, I didn’t realize that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.”
She continued, “I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside. There is a forward-facing way of being, and then you close the door and go ‘You can relax now’, but that formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me.”

Moreover, Durand and Scobie add that Kate didn’t make a significant effort to welcome Markle into the family, at least not in the way people might have expected.
Meghan had hoped that Kate would take her under her wing and guide her through all the new things that someone coming from “outside to the Firm” should know. However, the authors claim that never happened.
“Meghan was disappointed that she and Kate hadn’t bonded over the position they shared, but she wasn’t losing sleep over it,” Durand and Scobie wrote in Finding Freedom, adding that “Meghan would far rather have had Kate check in on her during the most difficult times with the press.”
Then, things only worsened during the build-up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
“It really hurt my feelings”
In her and Harry’s interview with Oprah, Meghan claimed that Kate Middleton had made her cry over the flower girl dresses on her wedding day. However, that directly contradicts earlier claims made by the British tabloids.
“It really hurt my feelings. It was a really hard week of the wedding. And she was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologized. And she brought me flowers and a note, apologizing,” Meghan said.
“I think so much of what I have seen play out [in the media] is this idea of polarity, where if you love me, you don’t have to hate her. And if you love her, you don’t need to hate me,” she added.
In his book, Spare, Harry has revealed new details about what went down between Kate and Meghan in 2018, revealing a series of private texts dating back to the days leading up to him and Meghan tying the knot.
They centered around Kate’s daughter — Meghan’s niece — Princess Charlotte, who was to wear a specific gown as a flower girl at the wedding, which was held at St George’s Chapel on the Windsor grounds.
All the flower girls’ gowns were “French couture,” but none had been fitted before they were crafted. Therefore, Harry wrote that some adjustments were expected.
In his book, Harry wrote that he found his then-bride-to-be “sobbing on the floor” following a text exchange with Kate. Harry claimed that Kate texted Meghan, “Charlotte’s dress is too big, too long, too baggy. She cried when she tried it on at home.”
At first, Harry claimed that Kate didn’t want to meet Meghan’s tailor at Kensington Palace to have the dress fixed. Ultimately, all the bridesmaids’ gowns had to be remade.
Prince William “has no intention” of apologizing to Harry
Kate Middleton wasn’t the only one receiving significant criticism in Harry’s book. In one passage, the Duke said she would be cruel to him “like all the wicked stepmothers in storybooks.” Moreover, he bashed his father, King Charles, for not even hugging him after his mother, Princess Diana, had passed away.
There were many stories, and the royals didn’t have any of them. Prince William also received his fair share of criticism from his brother, and today, the two don’t speak at all. In fact, it is said that William doesn’t even want to be in the same room as his brother.
Shortly after Spare was released, a source told the Daily Mail that the situation had become a “toxic stalemate.”
“William has no intention whatsoever of apologizing and remains incandescent, especially around the way his wife, the Princess of Wales, has been treated. The relationship isn’t even rock bottom now — it’s nonexistent. And I just don’t see if Harry were to come to the coronation how William could even bring himself to look his brother in the face,” the source said.
When King Charles received his cancer diagnosis in January, the world was left in shock. At the same time, Kate Middleton underwent her planned abdominal surgery, and on March 22, she revealed she had cancer as well.
As soon as Harry found out about his father’s cancer diagnosis, he jetted to the UK to spend time with his father. The trip to his homeland was swift, and of course, it didn’t end without controversy.
At the time, Prince Harry was said to be open to a temporary return to the royal family to support his sick father. The two were said to have had several “warm exchanges” when Harry visited his father, and their meeting lasted about 30 minutes. However, that Harry could possibly return to royal life was not something William was having a bar of.
“William would not allow Harry to return”
In mid-February, Prince William and King Charles reportedly held several private meetings at Sandringham in Norfolk. A source told the Mirror at the time that there was “no chance” the future king would allow Harry to ever return to royal life.
“Whatever has been discussed between William and the King is private, but it is absolutely and categorically clear that he [William] would not allow Harry to return. He thought it was a bad idea at the time and he’s even more clear now,” the source said.
As Prince Harry returned to the UK to briefly see his father, the royal expert stated that William had “got used to Harry being rude, unkind, and attacking his wife.”
So, how did Harry’s meeting with Charles go? According to a National Enquirer source, Harry left Camilla “outraged” after the meeting and even asked him to leave.
“Her Majesty was furious Harry flew in from his ritzy California home without getting palace approval – and came with an attitude. I’m told Camilla was outraged. She’s taken a lot of bile from Harry for years and couldn’t wait to let him have it,” the source said.
The source continued, “Camilla has taken it all on the chin, but using her husband’s cancer as a ‘loving son’ PR stunt was the last straw. After the father-son reunion, I hear she told Harry he’s a disgrace to his father, the family, and the monarchy – and she left no doubt he isn’t wanted back!”
Even though Harry — and especially Meghan — saw Kate Middleton and King Charles’ cancer diagnosis as an opportunity to bury the hatch between them and The Firm, it certainly appears that it won’t happen in the near future.
Royal expert says Kate Middleton, Queen Camilla, King Charles, & Prince William closer than ever
Meanwhile, the royal family continues its work, and as of now, Queen Camilla and Prince William are taking on a huge responsibility in King Charles and Kate Middleton’s absence.
While Harry and Meghan’s revelations rocked the monarchy to its core, could it have positively impacted them?
Speaking with GB News, royal author Lady C (Lady Colin Campbell) claimed that the Harry and Meghan feud actually has brought King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Kate Middleton closer together.
She stated that the four senior royals are “almost a unit,” adding that they “function in keeping with the best interest” of each other and not only the monarchy.
“Because they’re all very decent, family orientated, and loving people who want everything to go as well as it can. They’re very positive, the four of them. All this adversity, not only the health issues, but all of the problems with Harry and Meghan has brought them all together,” Lady C said.

The royal author continued, stating that “there is no way” King Charles will seek to give Harry or Meghan an official role in the future.
She explained that it “would be drinking poison from a chalice that they can well avoid drinking from.”
“I don’t think Meghan is capable of regret”
Moreover, Lady C claimed that Harry and Meghan don’t regret leaving royal life.
“I don’t think Meghan is capable of regret, she isn’t Kate. Her personality type is not that of somebody who learns from their mistake, and she blames everybody else for her errors;” Lady C said on GB News.
“She’s tried every trick in the book to keep herself absolved of all responsibility. I’ve been told that she is enraged by the situation because no matter what she does, it flops. No matter what Catherine does, even when she does nothing, it succeeds. And I mean, that’s infuriating for her personal life.”
“You see, it was it wasn’t only about the position, it was about the money,” she concluded. “Meghan came into the Royal Family with the expectation that she would be able to milk those udders and that she was going to be able to end up having a billionaire lifestyle.”
