American Idol alumn Carrie Underwood is among the latest to find herself being criticized for a ‘new’ look, with online users quick to debate last year how her appearance had changed.
Since emerging victorious on the fourth season of American Idol, Underwood’s country music career has gone from strength to strength. She’s released several chart-topping records, while her brand is as popular as it’s ever been.
Yet though Carrie’s been able to adapt her style to and evolve over the years, certain fans vented their dismay after one appearance last year.
Appearing at the CMT Music Award in 2023, Carrie donned a bedazzled silver jacket with matching shorts, showing off her toned legs (reportedly a product of a lot of time and effort in the gym).
Yet the distinct look wasn’t a hit with everyone. Some fans took aim at a perceived lack of piety, suggesting Underwood should leave the country music scene and start singing Christian tunes instead.
“Pushing that Christian lifestyle to its limits,” one person wrote. “Modest clothing out the window for fame and fortune.”
Others took aim at Underwood’s exposed legs. “Those legs are too much,” one commenter wrote.
“You can show off your legs without wearing those god awful shorts,” another said.
“Nope nope nope. Not a good look!” a third added.
Then there were those who left comments spreading the idea that Underwood had undergone some sort of plastic surgery.
“What did she do to her face?” one person asked.
“The plastics are getting a little carried away with. Stop!” another said.
“Something off about these photos – almost like photoshopped” a third added.
“She looks weird,” said another netizen.
A few months after the CMT Music Awards, the subject of Carrie possibly having had work done on her face reared its head again.
As per Hello!, fans were left openly pondering that prospect in September, 2023 when the singer attended an NFL game in Las Vegas.
“She’s still as beautiful as always but I didn’t even think this was Carrie!” one person wrote.
Underwood reportedly had to have work done on her face following a 2018 fall that she claimed required “40 and 50 stitches”.
“Even though I’ve had the best people helping me, I’m still healing and not quite looking the same,” she told fans in January 2018.
“I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful. I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse.”
