With that said, I’m a firm believer that no one should ever be harshly judged based on their appearance, irrespective of how much money they have in the bank.
Which is why I find it nothing short of confusing that singer-songwriter Katy Perry stirred up something of a debate recently after posting three photos and a video to Instagram while dressed in a skimpy two-piece bikini and visor.
An icon of the music industry for over a decade, it’s safe to assume Perry has a thick enough skin to take whatever people are saying with a pinch of salt. Yet that doesn’t mean she should.
In any case, the material in question – in which Perry was stood on a balcony, reportedly drinking a can of Drink De Soi, a non-alcoholic beverage brand she co-founded with Morgan McLachlan last year – certainly split opinion.
One of the images showed the TGIF singer holding the drink in her left hand while raising her right leg. Far from extreme, I think we can all agree, but nevertheless there were internet users who had negative things to say.
One wrote simply: “WHAT IS THIS.”
Another criticized Perry’s post for being “Unethical“.
A third, meanwhile, took aim at her age of all things, writing: “Ur getting old katy.”
A fourth added: “Pissed.”
Needless to say, there were others who used their time to praise the superstar.
“Its the balcony energy we needed,” one person wrote.
“I would be straight for you,” joked another.
“An absolute SLAY!!!! She is SPRITZING,” said a third.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Perry’s choice of outfit has ignited discussion online in recent months. Back in April, the 39-year-old narrowly avoided a disastrous wardrobe malfunction during a live episode of American Idol.
The Daisies hitmaker’s futuristic top broke right before Roman Collins was set to take the stage to sing James Brown’s It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World.
“I need my top to stay on,” Perry said in a behind the scenes video posted to her Instagram. “If it’s not fixed, this show is going to get more than it wanted.”
