According to a GoFundMe set up to collect donations, the boy’s mother Shannon Mount, 45, went into cardiac arrest on July 8. Paramedics were able to revive her, and she was placed on life support until she died on July 16.
Following her death, one of her children, Kayden Ely, made a sign asking his community for help.
“Please help bury my mama,” his sign read.
With the help of his small town community and people online, he was able to raise more than $11,000. An update on the GoFundMe stated that any funds raised over the cost of the funeral would be used to help Kayden’s future.
Shannon was a mother of five and a grandmother of one. She was a “straight shooter. She didn’t sugarcoat anything and was always ready to tell you off if you needed it. She loved her kids fiercely, even when life got messy,” her obituary read.
