While Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O’Neal never tied the knot to officiate their love story, the couple had an incredibly strong relationship that was intense and enduring.
O’Neal’s relationship with Fawcett ended in 2009 when she died of cancer. The actor was by her side when she took her last breath. Earlier this month, O’Neal himself passed away. His death was said to have been caused by congestive heart failure.
After Faecett’s death, O’Neal publicly spoke of his regrets about their relationship. He said he felt he did not get enough time with her. As a way to perhaps fulfill his wish to have been able to get more time with the late actress, he was buried next to her at Pierce Brothers Westwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles.
While it is no secret that the late power couple had their fair share of issues, they were also incredibly attached to one another. Their relationship suffered due to O’Neal’s infidelity and volatile behavior.
Despite the issues they had, the two of them were by each other’s side through thick and thin. Farrah took care of O’Neal when he was diagnosed with leukemia, and he had been by his side when she was battling cancer.
“I would have been much kinder, more understanding, more mature. I’d lose some of the savagery. I don’t know how she got cancer; maybe some of it was me,” O’Neal said to People magazine about his regrets. “There was never a day I didn’t love her.”
The couple shared a son together, Redmond. O’Neal had promised Fawcett that he would take care of their son. However, according to reports, O’Neal had tried to reach out to his now-troubled son but was unable to meet him before his passing. “Ryan has made a lot of mistakes in his life, but his greatest sorrow is not being able to honor his vow to Farrah,” an insider shared.
Their son, Redmond, is currently in incarceration. He had six charges of offenses related to alleged armed robbery as well as drug possession at the time of his arrest.
